RANGE OF EXPERIENCE


Ms. Talpa assists with business valuations of closely held businesses and provides financial analysis, forensic accounting and business litigation consulting services to trial lawyers, their clients and business owners and managers.

Ms. Talpa assists with lost profit and financial damages calculations in commercial litigation matters including business interruption claims. 
 
Ms. Talpa assists with the preparation of continuing education programs for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, the Chicago Bar Association and law firms.  She assisted with the preparation and presentation of the topic “Financial Statement Creation and Analysis” to new associates to one of the largest law firms in Cleveland, Ohio.  

             

BUSINESS VALUATIONS


The following business valuation engagements are representative of Ms. Talpa’s experience:

• Assistance with business valuations of professional service organization, including medical and dental practices, distributors of durable and non-durable products, real estate holding companies, an automobile repair franchise, interior design company and other privately held corporations for family services matter.
 
• Assistance with business valuations and financial and forensic analysis of an employee placement company and an online retailer related to shareholder dissent and oppression matters.


• Assistance with business valuations of an investment brokerage, durable and non-durable products distributor for estate and gift tax purposes and employee stock option plans.


• Value of lost goodwill of a cigarette distributor in a commercial litigation matter.


• Tracing the source of funds used to establish investment and brokerage accounts and to purchase certain business investments and real estate holdings during the pendency of a long-term marriage to determine the character of those assets for matrimonial dissolution purposes.

ECONOMIC DAMAGES


The following damages engagements are representative of Ms. Talpa’s experience:

• Assistance with lost profits calculations due to breach of contract of a paving and landscaping company.  


• Assistance in preparing rebuttal report on present value of lost profits associated with alleged failure to renew franchise agreement, proving the damages claim was unsubstantiated and unsupported, the claim was speculative and that there were no damages.


• Assistance with financial analysis and expert witness report preparation with opinion that the Debtor’s Cash Flow Projections were a well-prepared forecast of future operations, based on reasonable assumptions that took into consideration the changes expected as a result of the Plan Confirmation and would enable the Debtor to fund the Plan’s cash flow requirements.


• Assistance with rebutting the damages in a fraudulent misrepresentation and breach of contract action alleged by the purchaser of a manufacturer and distributor of safety equipment resulting from an effect in the design of certain products.  Assistance with analyzing opposing expert’s damage calculation and preparing a rebuttal analysis.
